CRYOGENIC TREATMENT OF TOOLING
AND WEAR COMPONENTS
As a metallurgist, I was astounded I'd never heard of cryogenic improvement of wear resistance
properties in metals subjected to abrasion. When I was introduced to this phenomenon, I immediately
did a thorough search of the literature. Was there some unknown phase transformation at 300 below zero?
Was there
something similar to time/temperature/transformation "knees" like we have in high temperature heat treatment?
The answer was NO! But, there ARE amazing changes of a different nature in most metals including graphitic
irons like grey and ductile. Some of these changes are not yet well understood. But it is real.
Let me show you how to save incredible amounts of money by
extending the life of foundry patterns, coreboxes, trim dies, forging dies, extrusion dies, and other tooling.
Not only is there opportunity for savings in tooling costs, but also in longer life of standard wear parts such as sand
and plastic blow parts & gate valves, and media blasters or tumblers.
Through my Cryo-Tool Services, we partner with accomplished cryogenic facilities around the country, applying joint expertise in tooling and metallurgy in application engineering to save our clients money. Abrasive life of your tooling and wear components is typically extended a minimum of 60% but usually 300%. Shear knives have been known to last SIX times longer. It depends on the alloy. Give us a call and let us show you how to benefit from cryogenic treatment.
